My go-to for years on the South Downs was a C16R - I had ti bikes. AMPs etc in the workshop but the C16R just rode wonderfully - had the same feel as my current COTICS. There's a clear design line running from a certain garage in Santa Cruz, to Halifax to Sheffield.
