Today's Ride

Day 2 of my 'ride a different bike every day for 6 days' challenge and today it was the '99 Explosif. I realised that without a distance or time criterion, the challenge would be meaningless, so decided on 20km. It was hot though, and I waited until quite late for the temp to go down a bit.

Then the thought came to me that this would be the time lots of Kangaroos are out, so decided in a hurry to take the old GoPro. Of course, that haste would bite me in the bum as not only did it feel heavy and unbalanced perched on my head, especially as it was in an after-market metal cage which was weighty -- but my last-minute change from 'burst' mode to video didn't save. This meant that when I switched it on, it took its burst but I thought it was recording video. So when a nice, fat roo leapt out into the road and kept bounding along in front of me, the camera fired off its shots in a second and I chased the roo thinking I had it on video. "That'll be perfect for the lads on the 'Today's Ride' thread," I thought. But you can't see it at all on the photos -- I peaked too early.

Like the fisherman's 'one that got away', it was a fantastic opportunity, with lovely late-evening light and a proximity better than I'm likely to get again. 😢

Anyway, it was a nice, relaxed ride and some are some frames of this track which I do quite often on the MTB. Those are roo tracks in the sand there, in the first pic.

Incidentally, I may try mounting the GoPro on the bars next time -- my helmet's too old and loose to have a bloody heavy lump sticking up on top!

Never seem to see any other people on your rides! Or traffic!
