Today's Ride

Now is the time of year when I'm getting in as many rides on the retro bikes as I can before winter kicks in and I go a bit less retro. Today was nice and mild, and with a lovely early evening sky.

There was also a full moon which was good because half an hour after that photo was taken, it was looking like this...

One plus side of riding at dusk is that I quite often get to see a barn owl or two on my way, as I did today. This being my first partial night-ride of the season, I had the obligatory pothole moment, but thankfully it was nothing too bad, just a reminder of why night rides are not my favourite thing in the world.

Lovely pics. It's not a part of the country I'm very familiar with and all the pics on here tell me I'm really missing out

Thanks. The Peaks is certainly great cycling country (speaking as a road cyclist but it seems safe to say that applies off road too). The scenery may not be as dramatic as somewhere like The Lakes, but I think it makes up for it by having a plethora of quiet roads where you can avoid traffic most of the time. I certainly feel lucky to be living near it.

I worked in Bakewell for a few weeks but 12-14 hour days meant I didn't get to see much of the area. Made the drive from there to Keswick a couple of times, which was nice.

The lakes are great for walking. Prefer most other locales for road based riding, especially in the tourist season.

6am commuting moon

commuting by bike must be great! I am very envy, since I've just started a new job which means 2*90min commuting by train per day. I'm in doubt how long will it take before I give up. (previous place changed WFH policy, resulting in 5*2*90min/week commuting by car (!!) instead of the former one office day per week sheme. so the job-change was inevitable, but painful.) sorry for the rant...
