Replacing chain

Hi,

Yep, you can buy a Shimano 116-link chain with a connecting pin and just remove two links for your 114-link setup. Works perfectly for 6-speed.
The “inner plate chamfering” is mostly for smoother shifting on modern chains; for your Orbit Gold Medal it’s not essential. Just keep the connecting pin through an outer plate to avoid stiff links.
Looks like you’re all set — love the Tupperware of shiny bits! :)

I think I will enjoy taking apart and cleaning rather than putting together. Started to put together yesterday but was delayed as lost some parts. Today had to work in the garden but I did manage to put on the front derailleur 😆 so I feel I've started.

A second vote for KMC, I find the quick link works really well.

KMC 6-8 speed - width 7.3mm 114 links

Used on all my bikes: 1953 - 1982, 6 speed to 8 speed.

One of my bikes needs 116 so I just added 2 links from another identical chain - chain splitter is really useful.
Thanks for the link, no pun intended. I bought a KMC 6 speed of the same length and it has a quick link in the box. Like for like so hopefully should be a doddle to fit.
