Picked this up off eBay recently - very pleased with it. I believe it's a 17" frame from 1993 - and has Exage LT throughout with Araya RM20 rims. The Marin Lite tires (possibly original and with no perishing visible) were flat, but once those were pumped up it was ridable. Gears were still correctly indexed. It appears to be pretty much original, except for saddle, handlebar grips and pedals. It's got a bit of rust here and there - possibly kept in a barn or damp shed, but nothing too serious. Aim is to just get it into a reasonable riding condition.
I've started to strip and clean-up, replaced bearings and re-greased hubs, brakes done and re-greased, cleaning up 7-speed cassette, derailleurs etc. It unfortunately has a stuck seat post, so that will be the biggest issue to be honest...
Couple of questions for Marin aficionados:
- the front brake pulley is different to the rear: the rear has the Y link 82mm B type, whereas the front has the more common yoke type. This looks odd to me and I wonder if anyone knows whether the front would have also originally had the Y link type?
- unfortunately the front brake M320 cantilever has lost the little piece of metal that grips the brake cable - I guess I'll need to find a replacement - anyone have one?
Other than that, it's in pretty good shape.
