Thanks d8mok was nearly out measuring it haha that also varifies what i thought the year of mine was also has the 2 holes derailieur drop out which I struggling to find in red because mine has no frame number but it looks like it's never had one thers
no sanding no grinding marks and the dropouts are totally flat

26.8 was 91/2
27.0 was 93-95 but also around half of 96
27.2 is 97 onward

If a 27.2 is too tight it’s likely as a 27.0 has been used prior and the clamp it’s squeezed in.
I love inconsistent seatpost diameters🫣
My current bikes...
1991 GT Zaskar 27.0 (tested with seatposts from my other bikes and 27.0 is the best fit)
1991 GT Avalanche (Tange Prestige) 27.0
1992 GT Bravado (True Temper GTX Ultra III) 27.2
1992 GT Pantera AL (7000 series Heat Treated Aluminium) 27.0
1999 GT Tequesta (Reynolds 525 chromoly) 29.6 ( Now Sold)
1998 Tempest (6061 Aluminium) 27.2
2001 Zaskar Race (Easton alu) 27.2
2011 Zaskar Sport 27.2
2021 Zaskar LT Expert 30.9

I was thinking this. My dad had it from new. So maybe he’s put a 26.8 seat post in and closed the seat stem gap up tightening it.

Is there maybe a safe way to ease it back open ?.

Fixed. Took the 26.8 seat post out. Removed the seatclamp bolt. Got a flat screwdriver and simply slipped it in the gap, and put a slight bit of a twist pressure (could barely see any movement. Grabbed the 27.2 seatpost………… went in absolutely perfectly 🥳.
