Parts , bikes and project bikes

SteelNipple

Old School Hero
I think I will post all the future projects, parts and bikes I have to this thread. The Santini and the Scott I will finish in their own threads.

I was hoping to have this finished today but the steerer tube was cut at an angle by someone and next to the slot for the keyed washer, 7mm's down from top the thread was f****d and I dont have a die for that size so had to "chase" it with a fine pointed file and also file the top level. Got left with just enough thread for the Chorus headset, maybe 1-2 full threads not in on the locknut. The Record headset that came with the bike was also trashed, possibly set too loose or tight as it had indentation from the bearings on the cup and race.
And the hubs I'm planning on using needed service and the end of the rear axle needed the thread chased.
I washed the frame as it had some tape residue and lots of baked dirt and grease and then after the wash I waxed it.
The headset is in and the BB, a later sealed Veloce.
I also cleaned the brakes and derailleurs and filed some of the rash of the RD. I still need to sand and polish the filed spots.

Should I use white Turbo and white bar tape or just go with black saddle and tape and save the white tape for the Santini? The hoods for the Chorus levers are black.

Nice Team Panasonic. To give you a taster of this frame with white saddle/tape combo here's my one.

I may be biased but I vote for the white saddle/tape combo, but that pic also shows a drawback of white tape.... trying to keep them looking white, bah my grubby paws!

Yesterday doing the rear wheel was enough of work for one day.
The rear spacing was little narrow and I didn't know how much there was grease in the hub so I started to take the axle off, but the thread was bad so I chased it. Then I needed to take the freewheel of to grease the drive side and taking it off I noticed the mechanism was loose so now it needs to be serviced too. After taking the freewheel off I saw the hub end of the spokes and that someones chain had done some grinding between the spokes and cogs. Tire off, rim tape and WOW! someone has decided to plug all the nipple holes with sealant/silicone in an attempt to make it tubeless. Good thing these FIR EA60 rims don't have spoke eyelets which of course weren't rusty at all. Gouge the plugs out, sand inside rim, wash rim, 9 spokes out, 9 spokes in. True the wheel, center wheel, tire on, wheel on.o_O
That's the way she goes...

Beautiful!😍 The Team Panasonic is really nice colour combo(Finnish flag). I also have 8spd Athena/Veloce that I was thinking to but on the bike. Looks really good with the silver aero rims, but the Chorus hubs are on black EA60's so maybe I try black saddle with white bar tape. Tires will be Vittoria Zaffiro Pro's with tan sidewalls.

Nice Shamals & look in excellent condition 👍
Thanks, yes they are in great condition and i got a good deal on them, quite rare to come by such a nice pair in clincher form these days.

I've always had a love for those wheels, as you know as ive and bought some from you before :)
