Today's Ride

A bit of rain coming tomorrow, plus travelling for work so wanted to get a ride in tonight. I went for simplicity. It's ironic that what are easily my largest and widest handlebars are the ones with the least amount of controls on them 😄

Built up as single speed with a coaster brake from a frame I bought a couple of years back, whilst I looked for period correct parts. This thing is awesome as a SS, so much that I've not yet bothered to fit a rear hub. I might, but there's no rush... don't want to clutter the handlebars.

21C a bit windy and definitely cooler than the last few days, but still very pleasant. 21km and I felt it in my legs.

Had to go home in the end...because night.

After looking at the pics of @PhillB Ignaz I decided I finally have to take the long overdue test drive with the Lightning.
So I quickly swapped the defective wheels for some from the spare parts box and set off.

Fortunately, the tyres held their air.

Apart from some issues with the shifters that got better by the minute the bike rode like a dream.

It feels incredibly smooth and super light, I was flashed.

The weather also was perfect so all in all I don't think there is any better way to come to the office in the morning.

Oh my....it starts looking like in the shed in here...
I need to tidy up...soon..

Gorgeous bike! They do ride rather well :) I wish I had a few more hills around here (I live in the ancient Thames valley flood plain - so very flat) but good for SS 😄. Your Lightning looks in great condition!

I know how that feels, I lived in Leipzig for quite some time and I missed the hills each day.

The bike is in pretty good shape, apart from the original wheels that need new spoke nipples. I have them here I but I haven't had the time to replace them yet.
NEw rim tape, tubes, tyres and cables and it is almost as good as new.

I don't know wich tyres yet but I guess I'll experiment a little.

Nice! I've got the old Smoke and Dart combo on most of my Breezers, Cult Vans on the Ignaz, and some Maxxis Crossmark on my mini Storm
