How accurate are catalogs?

Can you imagine how costly that'd be to have the right sized oval, at the right joint position per frame size? 🤣
Yep, hence why I see the issue being in the tube selection phase.

Still doesn’t answer the splined/fluted vs round in ‘94 Explosifs question. Cant currently reach mine (other crap in the way) to see if there is evidence of ‘93 colouring under the ‘94 green on mine.

The geometry was slightly different, 94 was the year they moved from a 395mm axle to crown fork to a suspension corrected 410mm. With a corresponding reduction in headtube length to maintain stack height. 👍 😁

So should I be running 395s or 410s?

If it's a 94 then 410mm. 👍
That’s good, as I have both threaded and unthreaded triple butted P2s - it’s currently has the threaded fitted. When I can get to it, I’ll go and start measuring to see if my splined/fluted ‘94 is really a ‘94 or a sneaky ‘93. 😀

The frames are still going strong. Never seen a failure there.
(The 95/6 one of them..did snap at the chain stay junction like other frames. Redesigned in 97, but not at the big tube junction.).
So just an aesthetic problem for you, not a structural problem. ;-)

Pretty sure they didn't alter this for the catalogues either..... Whistles...

Very much an aesthetic issue!

‘93 vs ‘94 Explosifs - according to the catalogue, only the ‘93 mentioned the splined/fluted down tube, and the ‘94s are a a mix of splined and non-splined. I suspect the splined ‘94s maybe overbuilt ‘93s x will see if I can find any evidence of the ‘93 fade paint job on my ‘94 green one, with splined down tube.
When i checked the geometry of the 94 compared to the 93 using the catalogue, the only real difference i seen was the chainstay was half an inch longer on the 94 Explosif. I've seen 94 Explosifs with the ribbed downtube and without which makes me think Kona just used up the remaining 93 frames then switched to the other one once they ran out of them,i think that frame will have the longer chainstay.
I'm building a collection of all the Explosifs from 89 to 97 and was looking for a 94 but now because of that i'm just going to use my spare 93 frame and make it a 94 Explosif, bar serial numbers it's the frame in my eyes.
