Raleigh Road Ace Frame and forks

I have started to clean off some of the rust stains, I will continue with this and see how the paintwork looks.
I am a big fan of keeping things original.
I am sure a new decal set will be appropriate - any one disagree.
The decals are a bit too far gone - I think.
More pics of the restored paintwork, this paint restoration has worked on my Quadra
I use T Cut original and an old tooth brush, its worked for me over the decades

Back to what this thread is about - not sure why I put the Peugeot in, I will post this else where.
More pics, a bit more details of the rust stains etc
Pearl type paint lacquer is amazing.

Headset looks original, still moving with a little play

Is it correct these cable guide were on the high SBDU team bikes and replicas?
Looking at the difference in colour of the paint around the cable guide would suggest that it's a later addition by a previous owner rather than using a clamp on 🤔. I particularly like this style of paint and decals used for 83/84 and would suit my late 82 SBDU Aero Fastback much better than it's current later Team Panasonic livery.

I did wonder that too.

I am very impressed with the colour, never expected it to be pearl type effect, on the negative its a bugger to try and hide that previous mod by a previous owner.
I could clean the rust off, spray some base white and blow it over with some clear lacquer and leave if as part of its history.
Reading Disraeli gears website and his description of Shimano AX mk1, 2 and 3 rear mechs, looks like the mk3 is the one to have as it was not indexed but How do I find one?

Are there any wise sages on here who can give me an honest opinion on Shimano AX 600 aero group sets?

I have always wanted a bike with a decent Campag group set, would it offend building it with similar Campag to the Team Replica?

In the past I have always 'improved' my Road Bikes and do it when funds were available.

Look great, work like sh*t. Poor brakes, poor gear change, low quality hubs that were not great. For the record I'm a bit of a Shimano fan, not for this group though. Dyna drive pedals make the frame effectively 2cm bigger because of the dropped pedal axis.

Guinessisgoodforyou, thank you for the input.
I like and know 105 is a good Group set - in my opinion.

I am leaning towards a period Campag set up.
I am in no rush, I could buy something every month and have it done for next year.
