another project! 1990 Marin Pine Mountain

got a little more done at the expense of customer stuff this morning. fitted the brakes, basic set up done as i'll be building wheels for it hopefully this weekend, used the original brakes from the bike with some pads i have from another set of lo-pro dx brakes that were in better condition, STI's were made from 2 sets to get a working pair hence the different amount of wear. rear mech fitted and cabled up ready. i have a nice looking chain and cassette ready and a pair of smoke/dart in amber wall ready as well, hubs will be LX and a generic pair of silver slightly v section rims i have used on a couple of my other builds, they're easy to get hold of and i think they look ok and with a machined rim surface it means the old school brakes work quite well.

Really nice restored mate you definitely made the right decision redoing it I know it was probably a ball ache but the difference is night and bay by the color Match the original paint has it got a sandpaper feel to it and why can't it be replicated

ok so i got a bit more done today, thanks to @markjohnson76 for supplying a NOS front hub, and ebay for a used but good condition dx rear shell, that meant i had a good pair of hubs. i found a used shell that was 36hole and swapped the good inners i had from a 32hole hub, i then built the wheels today, i have been using these generic silver v section rims, they are quite basic but double wall with a machined braking surface, once built with some DT spokes and gold ano nipples (for a bit of bling) they are a perfexctly good set of wheels, went for tan wall smoke and dart combo.

i'll wait to post a full bike pic until it's complete now, the wheels are in, so is the dx front mech i got from @Fatboy1974 so it's just finishing touched now which hopefully i'll get done tomorrow.

biggest issue is where am i gonna put it in the shop?!

Really nice bike! Only seatpost could require some make up! I liked a lot the Marins in early 90's!

Nicely done.
I might have a nicer looking left hand DX shifter knocking about somewhere.
Certainly deserves something better than the absolute abomination you have fitted...
