Today's Ride

Bit of a dull day but warm and not windy, so dragged myself out on the Jake at lunchtime, not really feeling it but hoping the effort would fuel a bit more enthusiasm. Decided to explore some alternative routes as part of this process, which was good in a way: it was great to follow a different road and break the routine a bit, but parts of this road were very badly corrugated, making it difficult to build up any speed. And prolonged juddering and jouncing has a disheartening effect after a few km. Then the road smoothed out and everything was peachy again. Always better to get out and ride than not, after all.

35 km, 1,132 ft climbing.

Another warm day. High 20's again, there was a nice breeze earlier when I took Barney for a walk, which typically stopped as soon as I got out on the bike.

Short loop again, long day climbing yesterday and with the heat I was feeling sluggish. Beautiful colours and smells over the fields, and along with the quiet and still fast rolling trails, made for a really nice ride. Glad I made the effort, as always.

Throwback to last month and the 3rd round of the SWXC at Newnham. A personal goal achieved to finally ride where our sport in the UK gained a tremendous amount of traction (ba-doom-tish) back in the early 90s.

What a spot eh? Fantastic natural bowl, tasty elevation on both sides with a great mix of singletrack. The bomb-hole was...well bomby 🤣

I was still miles off the cream of the crop but the winter "training" paid off in that I felt more comfortable going "at pace" and was only a lap down as opposed to 2 last year. A solid 19/21, 42/48 🤣

Round 4 and the regional champs are back there on Sunday. I'm fully expecting last position with the very best of the area in town.
