I am literally jumping for joy! After years of wanting a set I've finally received a basically pristine condition set of Caramba Double Barrel cranks but, and its a big BUT, the chainrings it came with are a single piece! I wanted to run these on my new get around bike in a smaller gear and bash guard. I guess my question here is can I grind off the teeth on the big ring without being yelled at by my fellow preservationists? Or must I throw another $30 at it and get a new spider off Ebay?

Surely you'd get more than $30 for that lovely CNC'd unit that is on there now? you'll have to buy a new spider when the ring wears out anyway!

I say sell it and buy a new spider and ring with the proceeds..... :D

I agree :). Just check that the thread on the crank is the same as on the spider you're going to buy. I got two versions with different threads.

Ok, I realize the poll is up till tomorrow but I was able to find a spider right here in my neighborhood at my very favorite LBS. Nothing like a couple of retro fanatics running a shop that's been in business more than 40 years. Now that's a basement I love poking around!
