Hi all,

My first 2 mountain bike were Raleighs (Marauder and M Trax 400) and I really have a soft spot for retro bikes of this brand. With an M Trax Ti and Dynatech Ti already in my collection, I've become kind of interested in what else I might be abel to add to my Raleigh collection - the bonded steel offerings of the early 90s, such as the Dynatech Voyager or the blue and yellow 'team' bike I find really interesting, but also the less premium but still pretty nice models like the Apex or the Peak.

I'd really enjoy seeing which Raleighs people have in their retrobike collection, not only for nostalgic purposes, but also to hopefully trigger some ideas about which Raleigh I should build after my Haro Extreme Comp is complete.

must confess I'd never seen that version of the Activator II before. I'm guessing you've checked its weight? I expect it must be lighter than most modern 29ers with all those quality parts fitted.

A school friend had the standard version from Halfords, and was quite insistent of its vast superiority over my rigid M Trax Ti  I ruined things for him when I got him to try riding my M Trax up a moderate rise so he could compare the two bikes... He ended up crashing the activator II into the back of a parked car, knocking a whole load of his teeth out in the process.

I've always been biased towards British Raleighs, but perhaps I should consider a Raleigh USA Technium in future. Very nice. :)

1989 Team 531, part of the lightweight handbuilt in Nottingham range that pre-dated the Dynatechs. This got a lot of use last year at the Retrobike nationals and was pretty much my main bike. It's going to be relegated to nice day out this year as my Muddyfox Prestige Comp will be the main bike for this year. It's a keeper though as I wanted one since 1989.

Also entered into this month BoTM as it's a limited edition special.

Carl.
