I wouldn't dream of using anything but a studded Schwalbe in winter anymore. Pricey, but when it's icy they are amazing - you do not have to slow down at all! When it's not they are heavy and slow however!
+1 if you're commuting in icy conditions. Been using these for 3 winters and they're brilliant. I use the Ice Spiker for full on snow.
For regular commuting I use Schwalbe Marathon plus. My commute is 5000miles a year in all weathers on a mixture of A&B road, farm trails and bridle paths. They cope with anything brilliantly and the most puncture resistant tyre I've ever used, far more so that the Contis I regrettably tried a few years ago before switching back to the Schwalbes a few month's later.
