What rear mech for a 1999/2000 era DH bike?

As per topic, any old school gravity assisted types able to suggest anything?
 
Short Cage XTR or 105 was the old school choice, short to keep it out the way and a normal action to ensure a nice whip down the gears
 
That's what I remember too, short cages were par for the course either XTR or road bits like Dura Ace etc. And some also stuck to 8speed for quite a long time after the introduction of 9v.

Some of us are still using 8sp, but yes M950 or 105 if money is tighter

In the mean time, I cant seem to find reference to a shortcage M95X series RD, only mid & long?
