West Midlands riders say hello

From Walsall. Not riding retro yet BUT have been lurking a while.
Thought id join after finally starting a possibly retro? (Raleigh Mtrax rsp250) build for myself.
Been mucking about with bikes since I could hold a spanner and riding them since I could reach the pedals. Usually working on everyone elses bikes and ride a rubbish Hawk hybrid. Getting the Raleigh built up from parts that get left over from repairs/upgrades on other peoples bikes so not period correct or anything but will be a cheap build.
I do believe that the frame at one point was owned by a forum member but I got given it after the lad decided he was quitting cycling.
Anyhow, Hello.

Re: Leigh - just joined - Ride Road and MTB

Hi,

I'm Leigh from Worcester. Just joined RB. I own 3 bikes - Kona Fire Mountain which doesn't count on here lol - use it for Bikepacking. I also own a 1982 Peugoet Touriste that i have fully restored, and a 1980 Dawes Super Galaxy - both of which I ride on mini tours.

I own a specialist business making modern and traditional outdoor kit. I also have a passion for the old canvas tents and gear etc.

Re:

Hi Leigh, always a good start to introduce your self :)
Speaking for my self a very interesting intro at that, bikepacking, outdoor kit etc.

Welcome to the site .............. Rob

Yes welcome, it's all a bit quiet in the West Midlands at the moment, shame really as we used to have some great ride's etc....maybe it's time to organise one!?

Bikepacking sounds fun, pictures and routes ridden would be an interesting read Leigh.

+1!

Having just done a little tour myself would be very interested in a bikepaking thread.

Welcome.

Thanks for the welcomes. Anyone rode the Welsh Ride Thing in wales? Done a few now and it's great fun. Non-competitive, choose your route to the checkpoints, and ride. You get 2 nights out under the stars.

Give it a go.

Hi everyone, I'm Mark, trying to return to cycling after about 25 years away.

I say 'trying' as I am now disabled. I was a passenger in a car accident that left me as an above knee amputee - but at least I'm alive, which I shouldn't be really!

I have recently brought an old Hercules 1950's bike, that has a Ken Rogers trike conversion fitted. Being a steel bike, it is very heavy. While I would like a beautiful alloy Longstaff, the cost, along with not really knowing if I can physically manage to ride very far, means I'm trying to do something as cheap as possible to begin with (and being out of work doesn't help).

So far, I have purchased some second hand drop bars, 1980's levers, down tube shifters, a Biopace oval chainset, and have dug out my 1980's Brookes B17 saddle. Changed the cotterpins chainset to a sealed cotterless. Currently stripping the frame back, and a lick of paint to start with.

There are some bits on this that might be of use to someone, a Benelx rod shifter, albeit the outside part of the cage is missing! What I've been told is a 1940's front hub brake, Milremo cranks, not sure if it is a Milremo chainset as well.

Found the site by accident, but will stay around, as thus forum is bringing so many memories back. I used to time trial, had a Freddie Grubb bike once upon a time, and have loved dusting the spanners off as I rebuild this trike with some newer lighter components.

Will provide updates as I get on!

Mark

Re:

No, I'm trying to make it as light as possible.

I won't be riding it far enough to justify panniers, tbh
