Carrera Fury (from Hellfruads) is a cracking bike, it's also in the sale at the mo @ £479.99, which leaves spare cash for a 2nd wheelset (although you would need another pair of disc rotors & another cassette)

Although IMHO It's easier (& cheaper) to swap tyres rather than have 2 wheelsets.

Quite often you have to readjust the disc brakes & the gears if you swap between 2 wheelsets

I know you can get almost any bike from hellfrauds, but these ones are in-store & worth a look...

Hang on, on the bike to work scheme he has no/little outlay. And the bike is at ~half the cost in the end.

So he could go up to £1000 say and it should cost him £500 in the end.

That's the whole point of the bike2work scheme.

I cannot see why he would want any lock-out really, why lug around a heavy fork and make them do nothing. Have you not seen the roads ? Worse than any bridleways

True, but modern lock out forks allow ~15-20mm of travel, rather than a fully locked fork, as it stops the internals from getting damaged.

High end lock out forks also have a floodgate, or blowoff threshold, which you can set yourself, so that you can choose the bump input that the fork will unlock with (& then relock)

Lockout doesn't add that much weight and is quite useful on climbs & the road (IMHO)
