Just out of interest, with all this drilling going on to the components did manufacturers at the time ever produce drilled components or offer lighter weight components? Was aluminium being used on bikes in the 70's ( I was born in 1980 so have no idea!!)

Aluminium was used on bikes before WW2! Aluminium frames were made in France even (can't remember the name!) using octagonal tubing pinned into lugs. Cranks, brakes, bars etc. as well.

Zeus actually made cranks with slots milled through them -

The ALAN is a beautiful bike, but I prefer the 70's alloy bike. That blue is lovely.
