Sunrace bar end shifter

Hi all
I’m hoping to put together a drop bar mtb using a 95 Kona Cinder cone I have knocking around , I bought a Sunrace 9 speed bar end shifter to run with a Shimano mtb mech / cassette/ and narrow wide chain ring in a 1x9 set up but I can’t for the life of me get it to index properly ! Anyone tried one of these ? They are ment to be 2.1 pull ratio like Shimano.

Funny I'm running 9 speed durace bar ends with an old 737 xt rear mech with no difficulties. What model / vintage rear mech are you using?
