Refer him to that Probike(?) Procycling(?) article, that "proved" the superiority of modern bikes with a 3% increase in power output for bikes 3 decades apart...

To an average rider, that 3% might equate to 7 minutes on a 50 mile ride. Thats quite a lead.

I feel sorry for the geezer! :(

One needs to know where one has been, to be able to know where one is going.

some people have no class or respect for us old gippers!! ;)

Al, yes i have been self medicating again. :D

I cant say I've ever met anyone who can ride at 100% of their ability for 50 miles , 3% is quite an insignificant sum when the rider is waxing lyrical about how spanking and great his new kit is for 90% of the ride

I'm sure i could gather up as much as a 5% increase in effort while riding an old beater made from copper piping with an anchor chained to the dropout for braking if it meant proving the fact that new kit doesnt equal a guaranteed performance increase .

I say let 'em say what they want.

I like retrobikes because I like retrobikes - couldn't care less if the rest of the world hates 'em - perhaps it would be better, then anything retro would be cheap.
