ooo im interested in this for when i build up my steel frame
im not really that fussed about weight though, but interested to see whats possible (at the lowest cost for me, id rather have heavy and cheap than expensive and light)
oh and when it's being weighed get your lightest tires and inner tube.
Course these are often pants tyres in use so only for the scales
Another one, I've just mentioned today.
Hub axles.. see those spacer that pad it out, buy a length of Aluminium tube, ID and OD of the correct size.
Saves grammes on an M900 one. Suntour of course already thought of that and they used Alu spacers, milled out ones at that.
look at the cheaper shimano groupsets ,may not have the strength
or longevity but less metal = less weight
its quite suprising how much lighter say acera is over some of the more
high end stuff
a mill and a lathe also help in this
a stainless steel brake pivot bolt weighs 4 grams after machining
and costs 5p
a titanium one weighs 3,3 grams as bought for £2.35
everything can be made lighter if you know what you doing
