Raving in the early 90s!

I don't think I could keep up now to be honest, being chemically enhanced doesn't appeal and I can't drink all night either, I guess I'm just too old for it now. That said if Ratpack, Slipmatt or Seduction were playing locally I'd make an effort to go just for one of their classic sets.
It's different now though, not the same energy as everyone is 40odd plus I wouldn't know about chemicals. Seduction is retired but Slipmatt still plays out all the time. Played a blinder at Fantazia in Bristol last year. Motion is one of the best venues on the circuit these days.

Go on, you know you want to.

I know for a fact that I still have a Creamfields or two left in me but no bugger I know wants to go out to play anymore.

I'm the awkward age of missing the original raves simply by being too young by a year and not having mates that could drive at the time. Instead I recorded loads of late night Kiss stuff from Colin Faver and then went back into it in the late 90's when it got a bit loved up again. Hardhouse was fun along with all the early jungle.

One time, at band camp, we'd stumbled in to a DJ Luck and MC Neat gig and were the only 4 whit guys in the room to stick their hands up when the question was asked: ''who wants to hear some junggggggggggllllllllllllllllllle!!!!''

Meanwhile in Scotland...

The first few minutes of that are some of the best atmosphere you'll ever see at a rave.

I rarely say this because I really do love music and I'm a firm believer that there's a good song in every band, singer, no matter how questionable. On this occasion I can't help but say, that's utter gash. The early 90's Fantazia raves had their moments (as you point out) but this is just dire beyond dire.

Anyway, with that out the way, if we're talking on this theme then you've probably seen this:

Having watched that video I can't say i'm that keen. However here's video from the event that started this thread

A properly produced Fantazia Video from the Big Bang in Scotland that features Q-Tex

And from this year some of the best Old Skool DJ's playing some of the best old tunes (some of these are on my regular set for the Guildford Spectrum monthly roller disco):

Sacrilege! Dream Your Dream III - Mayday Dream and Ultra-Sonic - Annihilating Rhythm. Two bona fide hardcore classics. The Ultra-Sonic one was licensed to Holland, Germany and Australia ffs. A proper Scottish export. And Mayday Dream is one of the best tunes on Bonzai, which was one of the best early trance/hardcore crossover labels from Belgium, famous for Jones & Stephenson, Thunderball, Yves Deruyter and more.

It should be remembered this is a Scottish audience, we're just that bit harder than you Southerners. :)

I'll watch that Big Bang vid later though.

Re:

Was anybody at the pre restored Roundhouse in Camden? About 89/90 when it got raided?

Kids completely off their faces lying down in the railways yards because that way you become invisible don't you?

"The Roundhouse NYE 1991 3 Red and Blacks, I just about remember it. An obstacle course (check), Mud (check), Darkness (check) Ravers and Travelers (Check).

A couple of weeks later the balcony had collapsed when went to another party there. Glad that didn’t happen new years eve!

There were muggers in action that night a friend had a knife pulled on him 5 feet from us and we didn’t even know.
I’m also sure a copper or coppers walked through the rave and were tripped up or had on of their hat’s knocked off. Though that could have been the pills, anyone else see that? I’m pretty sure a generator turned up from somewhere at some point.

Food being served as well and Hawkwind and Spiral what more do you need for your new years eve."

A year later than my memories... Aah well getting old.
