Quality frames are one of those things you dont really understand until you try them whereas pretty colours have an obvious appeal.
What determines quality though, sometimes the "best" tubing in a line is not the best for you or what your preferences in a ride are. In my case 1989 Tange Prestige Bridegestone MB-1 vs 1993 Bridgestone MB-3 with Ritchey Logic tubing. Although the Prestige was a fine subtle ride I prefered the liveliness of the thicker Logic tubing although the size and geometry numbers were identical. Here is a interesting test that explores different frames in a blind test.
