All my man cave needs now is a fridge and a 40" LCD and it's sorted !
I went to see a painter last Friday, he specialises in bikes and motorbikes and his work is top notch, I talked through the scheme, the fades and the little details that I was after, like spraying the logos not using stickers and airbrush work, he uses house of kolor paints and had the pearls that I was after, I'm booking it in for early March and he will do some sample tubes for me to make sure the colours are right.
I'm a fussy bugger so it will have to be just as I want it !
Turns out he likes his retro bikes as well and used to have an Eldridge grade and is after another!
Going to strip the frame when it gets back from the frame builders and do the majority of the prep myself, not so much to save money but so I can say I did it !

Yes I'm sticking with the orange and white, but changing the orange to something more pearl, I was joking with my mate on the way back from picking it up that if I kept the orange and white, I'd get a sticker saying "built in Bristol runs like clockwork" and I've never seen another Overbury's in orange and white or with that frame and fork combination so I want it to look special, I'm trying to keep it as period as possible obviously the grip shifter and the Paul lever won't be but it's going to be a rider not a queen, so I need to be able to use it.

Got the frame back from the frame builder, he had fitted a couple of braze-ons for a crud catcher, I know some may not like the idea but like I said its going to be a rider and I'm no lover of elastic bands and cable ties, especially if I'm splashing out on a new paint job !
I don't want the bosses to be proud so I've filed them down, I'm going to order some domed titanium bolts that will be painted to match the frame.
This is a side shot of before and after.
Next is to strip the paint back and clean it ready for paint !

I found the original receipt for the bike in a bag with some Shimano instructions a few weeks ago, the bag was cable tied to the bars when I got it and had been discarded to the far corner of the man cave!
The shop still exists but had moved, I spoke to one of the owners who actually sold the bike and remembers it, it turns out that it was a prototype frame originally made for Les Lloyd as a race frame as they built up Les's Pioneers for him, he 's not sure if this frame was used by Les and he's going to confirm with me when he finds out!
This answered a lot of questions I had, as I'd not seen a Pioneer with a rear wishbone seat stay before that and the lack of any braze-ons for racks/mudguards and the straight forks.
He thinks this frame was made by Andy Powell with the wishbone and painted in these colours as a bit of a dig towards "Orange"!
The frame was built up with the Deore components to fit the customers budget as it turned out he originally wanted a Clockwork !

As for the build, I got a new toy for Christmas ! :xmas-big-grin:

I've spent the last two afternoons lovingly polishing my XTII crank arms that I purchased from Treacle, they were in pretty good condition but had the usual scratches and dings to the sides and ends
I used coloured sisal mop with a green polishing block, this took all the scatches and dinks out of the metal, i'll follow this with a blue polishing block on a white soft mop to finish.
Even though they are looking nice when polished, I'm going to get them re-anodised silver to match their original look, I just wanted them looking clean with to scratches or dents. :roll:

Now your talking, I will eagerly wait for the next instalment Martin, A lot of great History Detail there, and im sure you are stood there eagerly polishing them cranks with a chuffing great smile....., and I take my hat off to you too, how on earth you can polish with one arm I will never Know, I bloody struggle with Two.

Respect mate, keep your ear to the ground and keep up the great work.

I've managed to get another M735 rear mech in good condition, it cleaned up well with a couple of tiny marks on the parallelogram plate, there were a couple of small scratches that were not deep and they polished out using the buffing wheel.
The M736 front mech was already in near mint condition, it looks like it was fitted but not used with a couple of light scratches to the back plate
I found a NOS 26.8mm XT seat post, the packaging is brittle but the post is mint.
Panaracer Smokes ! nothing like that new tyre smell !
And a couple of finishing parts, a NOS "Sharks Fin" and a pair of presta ali caps in orangethe orange ano looks more "bright" in the flesh.
