Re: Lost Souls of Retro©™ Mayhem 2016 call to arms -yeah 2016 !

Same as before. there seemed to be more children up by the arena so more chance to cause issues.

And we might cause a few too.

Good call that man due to the commotion you cause by just turning up i think it is wise we stay where we were

Just checking in - sorry I've neglected this thread for a couple of weeks  - can't wait for this now!
Still not sure what to expect from either the route, the 'race', the event as a whole or you crazy mad bunch of folk! I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and having a great weekend, I just hope I make it up to and through it without real problems...
I've been off work the past few weeks with severe blood sugar issues (I'm Type1 diabetic* if that fact hasn't been mentioned before) and despite getting a lot of help from my specialist diabetes healthcare team adjusting insulin levels, calculating dose ratios for exercising and identifying the dos and don'ts, it's still not stable and the recent bouts of riding in preparation for my two laps are literally causing mayhem! (Pun intended!) It's been a case of 'apply known principles of insulin requirements' and throw in some theory and 'trial-and-error' to try and get it right. I now wear a sensor in my arm that records blood sugar 24/7 and carry a machine to 'swipe' it for instant readings and pretty graphs of past hours' and days' results. It's costing me £100+ per month to run the device and with recent retro-bike spends (some necessary some indulgent!), some unexpected household bills and a drastic loss in earnings, things are getting tight financially, but hey-ho, onwards and upwards.
It's getting me down and I'm literally losing sleep due to the stress it's causing besides the dodgy sugar levels - like now at this very moment once again due to low blood sugar at stupid-o'clock - but I'm determined to get my body and mind in good shape for THREE WEEKS' TIME
Back in the saddle tomorrow - I'm even doing daily sit-ups to get fitter & stronger  This is a real shock to the system I tell ya!

Spud - there might be more than one can of Pussy needed to keep me alive during the weekend, but hopefully I survive through it and get to sample a bottle of f**king hell too! :p Seriosuly though, I'm gonna be fully prepared with all necessary precautions and remedies taken care of!
All the best,
Reg :)
*A full instruction manual will come supplied with me on the weekend for emergency purposes!

Re:

Reagan, You do your laps at your pace. Chrisby had to walk most of his lap last year due to his shoulder injury.
It's all very laid back as you will soon discover :D I am nowhere near fit!

Thanks G
I'm not too worried about doing the first lap I just don't wanna die before the second one
Slow and steady will be the way mate. :D Been out again earlier tonight, nothing too strenuous but tomorrow I'm planing a longer ride with some long climbs to really stretch the legs.

Out of interest has anyone got a Strava route/data for the Mayhem lap, I'm particularly interested in the elevation graph just to properly prepare myself for what lies ahead.

Re: Lost Souls of Retro©™ Mayhem 2016 call to arms -yeah 2016 !

Either I'm trying too hard or not trying hard enough

I'm getting all kinds of practise in preparation for Mayhem, including picking myself up after sliding along the ground, getting soaked in the rain (I hope it's dry on the Mayhem weekend of course!) and bending an XT derailleur back into shape to get back home. (RD-M735 = bombproof!)

But I need to to learn how to fall off on the non-drive side instead, not that I want a matching left leg but I don't think the rear mech will take any more of a bashing!

Oh, and I've also sprained my left thumb, so tomorrow's ride will either be excruciating when changing on the front shifter or, more likely, it'll be 4 miles of middle-ring-only riding! (And typing this post one-handed is a right nuisance.)

I hope everyone else's 'training' is less eventful! :D

Don't over-do it Regan, it's not a race you know! Well, it isn't for most of us.
