It is quite disgusting how you have to pay for insurance to basically ensure that it gets to its destination. Talk about minimal service and VFM.

I understand perhaps against damage but to have a delivery company that basically says:

"well we cant guarantee it will get to its destination"

Is a pile of tosh to say the least.

Does $200 sound reasonable then or does anyone have any ideas as to what he can try? Anyone imported a bike from the states here?

$200 is about right, I can import a 40lb parcel for about $180, about 3 days trackable. dont forget in addition the UK shippers then charge about an extra £15 admin because the taxman will want to have some money off you as well - duty (?%) and vat (17.5%) based on the declared value......well after all they've got to finance the bloated public sector & there massive pensions somehow!!
