Kona Hei Hei race frame painted 18”

@al-onestare

Has one...and far far nicer than this
To be clear, it's an Explosif and very different to this, which in my view is the real deal. I would happily make way my entire collection for a 19" one of these. The chances are next to zero but just putting it out there.

Sadly the SN is toast from what I can see and since it was a team frame (Seamus') that's not uncommon.

Why the Columbus sticker? Can we get a serial number from the seller? This would help @al-onestare with his Hei Hei list at the very least.

Reading between the lines the official Kona supplied team bikes were painted to look like Explosif's, no idea why. We're in contact with the seller who's been very helpful and says the serial number is covered with layers of paint and has supplied photos which are in earlier posts. It's also mentioned that on race bikes there's a serial number of sort on other components which 0113. As al-onestare alluded to all this and further information is in the Kona Titanium Serial Number list on the 'Retro MTB Chat' forum.

A member here recently sold a Kona Hot with the same paint job for 775 pounds. Surely there is someone here who can swoop up this team bike and bring it back to life. On the plus side, the frame is so beat that you can also rebuild with beat parts to match and save some money.

I wonder if the seller has reached out to the original team rider to see if he wants to buy his frame back? That would be a neat story if that happened. He's still around: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seamus_McGrath
