Hi folks....thought I'd share my latest purchase!
Not been on RB for a while - been concentrating on getting my classic Mini build finished and actually been riding bikes rather than rebuilding them!
Anyways....I decided I wanted a new project so been keeping an eye on eBay for bikes local to me and last week this beast turned up. Not knowing a huge amount about them I instantly recognised it from seeing them on RB I decided to take a punt on it. Offered a pocket money amount of cash for it and collected it at the weekend.
Been reading up on the Kirk story, which I find fascinating, and been looking through the various threads on RB associated with the Revolution and it seems to be a bit of a Marmite bike. I guess this is down to people owning them in the past and suffering the problems associated with the early frames.....and people like me who don't know any better
Worried about what I'd seen about cracking/corrosion/bottom brackets falling out etc I wasn't sure what to expect. First impression when I collected it was "blimey.....that's heavy" and how under spec'd it is (it's the mid-range Altus c10 model, 1992) - the only decent bit of kit on it is the LX front dérailleur - needless to say there's a huge pile of rusty scrap to throw away after the strip-down!
Managed to strip the bike down over the weekend and found no real issues - one captive nut fell out which I need to try and relocate (could be interesting!) but the seatpost came out as did bottom bracket and headset came apart with no issues.
Not sure what the plan is yet - initially I'll probably build it back up with some better components and give it a trial ride (after checking over for cracks!) to actually see what it's like to ride - then if I like it it'll probably get a full resto and become my daily commute.
Be interesting to see if I can turn this ugly duckling into a swan!
