Installing fixed cup

Attached a couple of images of my Sun Snipe restoration as it is so far but I am having problems installing the fixed cup.

I start screwing it in (anti-clockwise of course) but after a few threads it sticks. I am worried I am cross-threading it and don't want to damage it but I also can't get any leverage on it as I can't keep an adjustable spanner on it. Any tips please?

Park do a spanner for this which is easier to keep on. Maybe worth trying?

Is it the one you took out? Raleigh / Sun threads were different BITD

Hi Shaun. Yes, it's the one I took out. It came out OK once I released it so I don't think the thread was damaged.

Thats OK Any old bit of grit, dirt, paint speck, rust etc stops the cup from screwing home. Give it a really good clean (and the frame and try again).

Modern cups have external flats on the circumference of the cup..

Older Raleigh type cups have two flats across the middle.......

It's like the Raleigh one with two flats across the middle. I may have to take it to the LBS as I can't get the spanner to lock onto the flats as they are so shallow.

Yep, the raleigh one is a pain!! designed for a bolt on tool. If you have a big bolt and washer you can do a DIY job and bolt your spanner across the flats. Otherwise it's an LBS job

I tried that too but it doesn't seem to be working. I think LBS to be safe. Thanks!
