Installing fixed cup

Attached a couple of images of my Sun Snipe restoration as it is so far but I am having problems installing the fixed cup.

I start screwing it in (anti-clockwise of course) but after a few threads it sticks. I am worried I am cross-threading it and don't want to damage it but I also can't get any leverage on it as I can't keep an adjustable spanner on it. Any tips please?

Hi Shaun. Yes, it's the one I took out. It came out OK once I released it so I don't think the thread was damaged.

Thats OK :) Any old bit of grit, dirt, paint speck, rust etc stops the cup from screwing home. Give it a really good clean (and the frame and try again).

Does it look like the cup in this article?

Re:

It's like the Raleigh one with two flats across the middle. I may have to take it to the LBS as I can't get the spanner to lock onto the flats as they are so shallow.

Yep, the raleigh one is a pain!! designed for a bolt on tool. If you have a big bolt and washer you can do a DIY job and bolt your spanner across the flats. Otherwise it's an LBS job :(
