Ibis Silk Ti

Re:

thx for all the comments.

considering this ST to be a replacement for another ST… the DeKerf Team ST i have. so i'm debating selling off the DeKerf, and if so maybe shift the set of white Race Face Next LP to this build. Thoughts?

The Bontrager Ti Crow Bars are also on that build.

Does anyone have experience with converting Judy XC/FSX to 75-80mm travel? If I get an Englund Total Air conversion kit, would that work? And would it make for a better performing fork? I also have seen Judy with Speed Springs installed. How do these compare?

Or should I go with another 80mm suspension fork? :?

Re:

so being me, i decided to throw on some other components i had on hand just to have a gander. thought i'd give a go at a grey Syncros stem, but the steerer on the Judy FSX was too short. so then that lead to me giving a set of Amp F3 XC a go as it already had a CK crown race on it. as with the Judy FSX, the Amp fork doesn't have enough travel on it, but just looking to see how i can get this up and running sooner than later, and then adjust from there. ;) now seeing the F3 on it, maybe a set of F4 BLT would be a good pairing?

Re:

decided to throw on the first round of parts at the bike just to get it up and running to get a feel of what it's like to ride this tasty bit a ti.

first order of business was to remove the existing BB to put in a nice Race Face ti variant. however i was greeted with a very NASTY surprise! looks like a lot of water/moisture got into the bb shell and did a number on the Shimano bb. both the shell and BB cleaned up nicely though, so who knows why it looked as bad as it did. :? once tidied up, the RF bb went in.

the rest of the parts are all that i happened to have lying around already that i felt most most appropriate. so out came a Syncros Easton EA70 Hard Core bar, some Avid Ultimate SD-V levers connecting to some Shimano m960 v-brakes, a single old XT thumb shifter for the 3x1 set up, a plain old Race Face Turbine LPs in silver with matching black triple rings, and a Paul Melvin chain tensioner to go with the Fhub/Word wheelset. don't mind those CRAPPY pedals on there. they're stuck good on those arms at the moment, and i haven't made the effort to really have a go at tackling to removing them just yet.

with what i've put together, it gave for a very complacent and comfortable ride. which is a good thing as parts that i really want to finally upgrade with may take some time to source. however, i'm looking to bring over the RF Next LPs and the Avid Arch Supreme over from the DeKerf Team ST.

Re:

parts selection completed and assembled.

the SID world cup black box looks ace on it, though would have liked it to have been a little better cosmetically. also it needs to be serviced as i think i've put the proper amount of air both +/-, but lots of sag and it bottoms out very easy sometime with a bit of a "clunk", and the lock out doesn't seem to be working. :?

Ibis stem, Merlin ti bar, Thomson seatclamp, Race Face Next LPs and chainrings round out the changes.

Re:

updated now with gunmetal/pewter RF standard 110BCD crankset that gives me a little better gearing ratio. also makes the build look just a tad better now too i think!

I quite liked the white crank tying in nicely with the downtube decal but the gunmetal looks great too. Really nice build Frank and I quite like the idea of the 3x1 setup. Will the gearing suit it's intended use?

Re:

yeah, the white next cranks went well with the main down tube decal. but overall i think it drew too much attention away from the rest of the build. if i had more white elsewhere maybe?

haven't gotten to really put the 3x1 through it's paces. but i did notice needing higher gearing as i was spinning more than i liked while cruising, so the slightly bigger rings up front with the standard rings vs compact should hopefully provide better pedal cadence.
