How many is too many?

A wise old man once quoted to me...

"Have as many as you can, 'cos you'll never have as many as you want!''
He was actually making reference to women, but hell, it applies to bikes too.

Well, I think so.

...Loved up on bikes and fine women.

I think you could quite easily justify the following:

Retro steel/Ti rigid MTB
Retro steel/Ti hardtail
Retro SS
Retro FS
Retro Garage Queen - your choice
Retro Road
Retro Cross
Modern Hardtail
Modern XC FS
Modern DH FS
Modern Road
Modern SS
Modern Cross

Fairly new here but there are 2 bikes missing to keep the wife satisfied

retro tandem
modern tandem

;) ;)

I think 5 is a fair number

1. A road/training

2. A full sus

3. A hardtail

4. A tourer

5 A commuter/hack[could be single speed]

Possibly 6 [now i think on it   ] something titanium and rare, merlin maybe

I have 4....

kids tow bike/clunker... db apex
ss/work bike clunker...p7

orange p7.... steel
pace rc200.... ally

I have agreed to break the apex up once the kids are riding fully on there own.... but I keep thinking a vit T, hei hei or zizang would fill the space nicely.....
and I've always wanted a yo eddy.....
and I haven't got a full suspension bike, not that I think I'd ride it much, so I guess that could be the garage quuen....
and a cross bike would be nice, and a retro steel road bike would be quite nice and............

surely number of bikes owned is

current bikes owned = N + ((time spent on ebay + time spent on retrobike) x number of bottles of beer drunk) / is there anything interesting on TV x will the wife find out

There's my bikes
2 Modern Road
1 Classic Road
1 Track
1 Modern Cross
1 Retro Cross
1 Modern MTB
4 Retro MTBs including "the Pace on the way"

Her bikes
1 Modern Road
1 Retro MTB (The GT is hers but she never uses it)
2 Shoppers

And the kids bikes
2 MTBs that fit them
2 MTBS they grew out of...

I think too many bikes equates with how much space you have to keep them in. Space is not a problem at the moment as we have a 150m2 basement that hasn't been renovated yet ergo, we don't have too many bikes....

At some point, they will all have to fit in one room and the shit will hit the fan.

Retro steel/Ti rigid MTB:
Retro steel/Ti hardtail: should be sorted within a week
Retro SS: '94 Cindercone
Retro FS:
Retro Garage Queen - your choice:
Retro Road:
Retro Cross:
Modern Rigid: '00 Cannondale Badboy
Modern Hardtail: '09 Malt 2
Modern XC FS: '10 Orange Five (planned purchase)
Modern DH FS:
Modern Road: '07 Condor Italia
Modern SS:
Modern Cross: wanted

What I have also noticed is that the excuses to start a new project become easier. Were before I had a groupset left, or a frame, now a left over brakepad seems enough!
But I have promised myself I first sort out the storage space before purchasing something again. Although I have seen something special, a once in a lifetime opportunity...... blablabla......
