Help me build an OK 29er!

Haven't even put a chain on mine yet. Keep riding the cooker as a bit of a 'swiss army' bike. The coastroad will come out in a few weeks and be made tour ready with racks and panniers.

I have a 29er Salsa El Mariachi on the way now, thanks to THM for spotting it on ebay.

Now things are getting real, I'm starting to plan the rest of the components...

Re:

I've moved the thread. Hopefully you'll be very happy with the El Mar, great bikes by all accounts, I've had an Ala carte and a couple of forks and they are very nice steel.

It's been almost a year and no progress has been made on this build. Frame still in storage, away from prying eyes. However, in that time I've decided to stay rigid, and go with a 29+ 3" front wheel/tyre, and fit a 3x11 drivetrain. And if I every get round to doing it, this will be the bike I'll take to race the Tour Divide in 2018 or 2019.
