Hello. I'm new here. Have a look at my bargain find....

I would agree that if I was restoring a bike to it's period glory I would keep the original brakes on, but this is a bike to ride with and not of any significant retro value.

I would like a couple of my bikes again -a GT Tequesta with U brake in that black and white zebra stripe (92 maybe??) and a Kona Kilauea, the grey one made from Tange Prestige. Now those I would want to restore with period parts.

By the way, how do I create a signature on my posts like most on here have done?

What I am saying is based on performance rather than period correctness. I suppose vs are mildly better than properly set up cantis but imo the difference for me is not worth the expense. Magura on the other hand are better and as a bonus the early ones would look very well on this bike. Don't think they would set you back any more than a decent set of modern vs with levers ;)

You can edit your signature within you profile :D

Nice find! And hello!

If you don't mind unsolicited advice, keep the cantis. They are just as good as V-brakes, only a bit more messing about to get working.

Have you been drinking the canal water again ?.
