Update: Was still unhappy with the brakes so changed the CLB non aero levers for some Dia Compe aeros and new housings. Very happy with the results and the bike looks a lot slicker for it too.

I decided to change the chainset (long story which I won't bore you with but the bike now has no left crank ). I wanted slightly lower ratios for my lumpy rides and old legs so went for this Silstar 50/36 to replace the 52/42 and should arrive next week ....

All done for now. Fitted a nice Flite TI bought from a member here to replace the Brooks Comp and had my Silstar compact chainset fitted. Rides very nicely and gets me up and down the local hills even better than my slicked out Univega mtb.

Might change the seatpost as it's a bit rusty and I can't set it just how I want it.
