Could I replace a u-brake with v-brakes?

Looking to rebuild the lovely Carrera frame that @wicket off here kindly gifted me. It has a u-brake. I hear these are a bit rubbish. Would the stanchions take a v-brake replacement?

U-brakes were pretty good, and well adjusted certainly comparable to a cantilever. However, they do need watching as the pad wears (as they can end up eating tyres).

Not aware of any adapter available.

there are some odd adaptors out there but your v-brake would be right down in the dirt!

and the posts/ bosses are way too high, basically in the wrong place anyway

Sure I have seen an adapter, though not sure if it was homemade.

But like above, U brakes are very good, easily as strong as V brakes

There is a thread on the other way, no doubt the Odyssey U4
brake booster/adaptor can be used the other way around if you buy the boss bits etc.

Most frame builders will be able weld on some disc tabs fairly easily if it’s reliable braking you’re after.
