But how does the Stheno compare to the Atek in the Campagnolo lineup?

Whats your proposed use? XC or rougher duty? Imho, campo rims have never been the strongest or best. But thats only my opinion.

Hard to know until I build and ride it really, but in my mind it would be for the less aggressive trails (leave those to the Spesh); more for longer XC climbs and rides, or less aggressive single track.

Appreciate the Campy rim feedback too. Opinions make the world go round!

This is the difference between Atek and Stheno.

Also, it's worth remembering that brakes don't tend to work as well until they've worn the anodising off and then the rims look tatty.

Matrix were making them around 91- 94 too but they were all on Treks.
