Barry Hoban road bike

MY garage clear-out continues apace.

I bought this as a not very old second hand bike in the 80's. It's always been a little bit too big for me! In the intervening years it has passed back and forth between my brother and me. Sadly the years have not been kind to the paintwork, and it lived outside for a number of years (not in my care at the time, honest!) It will blast and re-enamel nicely.

It's 531 cs frame tubes and 501 forks, and a bit of googling suggest the rear stays may be 501 tubing but I can neither confirm nor deny this... I think it's about a 22 1/2 inch seat tube. I forgot to measure it so will do that and the top tube length this evening.

Original throughout except for cables, tyres (no tubes fitted), saddle, bar tape, and brake levers. A pair of mafac levers were fitted after the original hoods died. I may have the original brake levers I'm not sure - I'll take a look in the brakes bits box tonight.

Basic campag gears

I'm not sure what it's worth. I'll ask £80 collected from nr Thame, or posted at cost but am open to offers....

Yes indeed. 531cs is a short-lived tubeset from the mid 80's that comprised 531 main tubes (chrome manganese molybdenum steel) and chrome-moly forks and stays. 501 is chrome-moly but Reynolds never stated absolutely that the chrome-moly in531cs was 501.

It's good stuff and looses very little to 531c. I had a Holdsworth Triath-Elan made from the same stuff and did thousands of happy miles on it.
