@chickendrumsticks what lies beneath the saddle cover?!

The original Madison branded saddle. Not sure if it's leather or not yet, but it's comfy. EDIT: it is a sound real leather cover on a plastic/foam base.

Now all in bits getting ready for new paint - despite what I said earlier...
Frame weighs in at a respectable 2070g, the forks are 700g. Pretty fair for an all 501 set.

I'm already thinking "good grief - what have I done?"

501 may well be a better choice for a larger frame set when loaded up with touring luggage as it will be more rigid. Older Dawes Galaxies can be a bit squirrely when loaded up.

I've always liked 501 as a tube set. Without fail every 501 bike I've had has been great. Not tried a fully loaded Galaxy so bow to @hamster knowledge there.
