So, first of all...

Mods: Am I okay to post this here!?

It is a Mid-90s bike. It is a Bontrager. I have built it up like a skinny-tire ATB, but, hey, I guess feel free to banish this thread to the road forum, if you must!

It is a 700c bike, so I do get it.

I just felt like it might be of more interest to this crowd in here?

Anyway...

Let's start with some photos of the bike as it was listed:

The wheels weren't included, but what we're looking at here is a custom Bontrager cross bike, with Steelman-built fork (original to the bike) and matching (but not really matching) Salsa stem (not original to the bike, but somehow still perfect)!

I'll get into some of the backstory and details in the next few posts.

But let's just say, for now, that this one was an exercise in problem-solving!

All that matters is that the frame is pre 98 MTB

Looks great. I've been thinking about going 700c on one one my 26ers. What tyre size are you going for?

Well, technically it's not.

It's a cross bike.

But I've built it like it is!

Tire size is one of the many challenging things about this bike.

But clearance issues and design dictated that for me: 32's in the back, 33's up front!

Proper cross racing vibes!

29ers are ok surely?

I think I've said this before on your posts, but

I'm. Not. Jealous

Hahaha.

You might have mate!

Just acquired to "final" member of the "perfect" Bonty trifecta too, so look out for another Bontrager-themed thread one of these days!

That one will deffo have to go in the road section tho...

More MTB adjacent than Road anyhow so it fits perfectly in here.

All to be revealed soon!
