So, I picked up a £50 1989 DB Ascent. The OE Mountain LX shifters are knackered. There's a (6 sp I think) freewheel on the back, yet I thought Mountain LX was 7sp? It needs a new rear wheel so I'm going 7sp cassette (Shimano).
Basically, I'm not actually sure what I want! I can't afford/ the bikes not deserving of £30-40 Deore DX shifters (although I've used them religiously on my bikes over the decades). What other under-bar pod type shifters or shifter/ canti brake lever combos might there be for sale please? Something reliable and a bit more affordable would be great and ideally not so cosmetically challenged?
