1997 Voodoo Zobop - My 'borderline' full suss'er

I started my 'jig-saw puzzle' today...

The headset, bottom bracket and seatpost clamp is fitted. (The headset and seatpost clamp aren't retro though, in fact they're brand new! I can hear the purists turning in their sleep!)

The rest of the groupset is waiting to be fitted...

...along with a few finishes touches: WTB Rocket SLT saddle, a 90s Crud Catcher, some Club Roost grips and a Blackburn SS bottle cage. Again, the grips and bottle cage aren't retro but they'll look good. I've also got a brand new XT sharkfin to go on as well.

That makes sense about Titec; I had noticed that Voodoos use to be fitted with it.

Ok cheers for the heads up on the decals. I just haven't found an actual 'Zobop' decal yet. I may have to find another Zobop owner and get them to take a pic of the logo.

I saw a couple of black ones the other week and should of got one. If not I might get a silver one anodised.

Nice to see one being built

I've got a Zobop also in Metallic Red sat in the attic doing nothing  , if you want pictures of the decals let me know.... they're all in great shape

I can put a rule in the pic for reference if you like

Retro spud, that would be great if you could bud! There should also be a small decal at the back of the seat tube (near the clamp) if you don't mind getting that one as well

The Zobop's now progressed to a rolling chassis! I've got an IRC Mud-Mad up front and just a spare tyre from the shed on the rear. I'm just waiting on my mate to lend me some bars and then I can get all the cabling done

So I did get the Zobop finished just after Christmas but forgot to unload it before I headed back to the continent. The dropper post is only temporary as it's the only spare seatpost I possess. I also had to borrow the bars and stem from a mate as I've not managed to acquire some Azonic bars to match my (Azonic) World Force stem (40mm)

While I've been away though, l've bought a few upgrades...

(A pair of Club Roost 'bear cage' pedals, a Fox Vanilla R and a Salsa brake booster).

I'm guessing they're the right era but can anyone pinpoint the exact year of any of them??

The Z2's are a huge improvement on the Indys - they are way stiffer and have proper damping. Looks like a tidy build.

Nice pedals! Should go nicely with the Azonic stem, raw Alu CNC goodness ;)

I hate to disappoint you Osella, but the stem is black...

To be honest, I think it's going to be too short (40mm) but I'll see how I get on. As you can (also) see, I've managed to acquired some Azonic CF1 bars. I believe they were released in 2003 so they're a little 'new' for the build but I couldn't resist some carbon bars!

Last week I sent my Fox Vanilla R to TFTuned for a service because the rebound was pretty slow. I can't fault their service; despite not actually booking the shock in with them, it was back with me within a week! I also ordered a new 800lb spring for it from Rose Bikes. (I suspect it was NOS as I haven't been able to find them anywhere else.) I did make a small boo-boo with the size though, as you can see from the picture below. I can't see that the 12mm difference will cause any dramas though as both springs are for a 1.55"/38mm stroke length, 6.5"/165mm i2i shock

Parts wise I've pretty much finished the Zobop now. I'm on the look out for a WTB SST 98 instead of the Rocket SLT lurking under that saddle cover. It'll need a respray too and some new decals but that probably won't happen until the Autumn. Note the IRC Mythos on the rear. I have also got a matching front tyre but I prefer the 'Missy' Missile...even if the rubber is as thick as a car tyre and probably weighs just as much too!

Re:

Looking very nice - very understated! Did you come across any issues with fitting the new spring to the shock in the end?
I'll keep a lookout for an SST on my rounds - assuming you want the red-corners, or does that not matter? ;)
