Re: 1997 Kona Kapu

Interesting. Top tube routing and the top seat tube sticker would indicate something around 93/94. The headtube sticker is not original. The serial number I'm not clued up on...starting with a 5 might mean 95 but probably not as the Haole wasn't Ti that year (and it was blue).

Re: 1997 Kona Kapu

Thanx for the reply I have email confirmation from KONA that the frameset is kona haole that it is 1995 that is guaranteed as for colour it came raw titanium they have told me this from kona headquarters them self and have the emails to confirm that as for the groupset on it and shells they are all shimano dura ace sis 8 and again are vintage the frame it self was one of the first road bikes they built and Is highly rare item

Re: 1997 Kona Kapu

Well, it's not one of the first but it's defo in the first couple of years they made them ;-) Interesting mix of decals if it is a 95 - some from at least 2 catalogue years back. Proper nice frame, not sure if the forks are original.

Re: 1997 Kona Kapu

It was sold as frame only raw in colour and no decals on it at all or badges everything was added after the purchase of the frame I am just looking for a value as I am intending to sell

I got in contact with Kona in a vain hope to see if they would rummage around their warehouses to uncover one. The replies were nice but no luck...

Just wondering wether to get my hopes up

Which warehouses would they be? I've exchanged a couple of email with a Leeds Kona supplier (Got directed to the Honky Tonk too :)) and he says:

The last Kapu I saw was one in the Geneva European office, owned by one of the staff, however, I did ask if they would build it again which they did hint at.

I can enquire if they have anything left in geneva if you would like.

the current model, the honky tonk just isnt the same bike

Re: 1997 Kona Kapu

The bases in Washington and Canada. Any digging or leads are worth poking - based on what JP Saville kindly fedback, the fact that no Kapu's were ever imported to the UK may also indicate a lack of take up in Europe but you never know!
