1996 Stumpy m2 (challenging my own prejudices)

I'd say that the rigid fork doesn't look bad, but to make it look more integrated, perhaps an alloy stem to tie it in
ta, appreciated, Giving it some thought. Have a plain alloy stem somewhere. I was half eyeing these up as an easy option
but not sure.
And 👍👍👍 for Duck Norris

I saw this frame on eBay when I was on the look out for an M2 a few weeks ago.

In my view these are hugely underrated frames. Yours being from ‘96 will have butted tubing so given how notoriously hard was to work with this type of aluminium from Duralcan this is by no means a small feature.

If you are interested I can share some of the articles on the Duraluminium I have collected.

Having a steel fork would help with some compliance as the frame itself is apparently extremely stiff.

I would go easy on it though cause they do crack a lot especially in the top tube seat tube area.

Good luck with the build. I am building a similar as we speak!

Yeah, clearing the attic so gave it a quick whirl on ebay, but it didn't go so decided to give it another chance of life. I originally bought it cause Id heard good things about the frame. I've got a 'few' steel bikes and thought it might add a bit of variety, but Im a little stuck in my ways. However, it might be growing on me ..... a little. Not enough to ever replace my 90 stumpy comp though 😅 but I will give this one some gears.
Yes, would certainly be interested in the Duraluminium articles, thanks.

I've got some 1999 Judy XCs and a silver specialized bar you can have for postage if you are interested? I've probably got a box somewhere.

these ones:

they are cosmetically shabby now, but still work OK. They are the coil versions

Thank you so much for that! I shared them elsewhere, I think I have managed to get them in order, if anyone would like an easier read, check out post #439:

Thank you. That's a super generous offer. I think I would be daft not to take you up on this and give it a whirl if that's OK please. Very much appreciated. Will pm you.
I saw your post last night, but thought I ought to sleep on it before replying. I've been flip flopping around like crazy between fitting rigid forks or reverting to a suss fork, and I wouldn't want to just make a grab at your v.kind offer without good basis. But yes, I think it has very much got to be worth a go. Probably worth checking the steerer tube length before putting you to the trouble, and that looks like a fairly wee little frame with quite a short steerer tube.

Yes, thank you, as Mattithundrrr said. I should have paid more attention in material science. Not really studied alloy frames tbh but it does appear to have relatively small tube diameters, which is cosmetically nice. The frame is definitely growing on me ;)

I was in such a rabbit with the technology of this frame that I tried to find out as much as I could.

Here is someone story from within Specialized:
