Withdrawn £35 1990 GT Team Avalanche Retro MTB Fork Tange Prestige Steel Red Over Blue Widow.

Bike Creatively

Old School Hero
A really rare set of forks that I was amazed to find on a resprayed retro GT bike I bought. The whole bike had been painted red (badly) by a previous owner but as the paint was flaking off, and I could see patches of the iconic “blue widow” GT paint scheme underneath, I decided to use a stiff brush to remove some of this newer paint. To my surprise these forks turned out to be Tange Prestige forks from a 1990 Team Avalanche! 😮
As these forks are incredibly rare but will obviously need repainting, or at least the red carefully stripped off, I am asking £35 plus £8 postage, which I think is fair considering it’d be nigh on impossible to find another set of these.
The dropouts are stamped Tange and the threaded steerer, which measures 13.5cm, is stamped Tange 90C.
It is likely that they were painted due to wear, scuffs and rust spots commensurate with their age so there’s no way of me telling what the condition of the forks is like under the red without stripping the paint off, so please be aware that they’re not perfect and will need at least repainting but possibly repair. That being said they feel solid and undamaged still so hopefully ok.
Also on eBay so could sell anytime:

Collection possible from Sheffield S17 (near Totley Library) or Chesterfield S41 if arranged in advance.
Thanks for your interest and should you have any questions please fire away!
😊

Are you not tempted to strip them? At least you would know their actual condition, they may be worth good money.....

Thanks for your reply! I thought about it but decided that if someone wanted them for £49 then I’d be happy to pass the project on as the full bike was bought cheaply and I can’t see them being worth more that £90 even if the blue widow paint is salvageable, but I may be wrong with that valuation. How much do you reckon they could be worth if stripped back to original? (Given that they’re not going to be anywhere near mint unless stripped fully and repainted)

Its more about the condition under the paint, rather than originality. If stripped, they are more likely to sell for what your asking as the condition will be better known.....
Absolutely! It would be good to know the condition 👍 if no one wants to take the project on then I’ll strip the red off the best I can but I’ll give it a week or so…
