My first MTB (owned from new) and my first BOTM entry

I think it breaks about every unwritten BOTM rule (said very tongue in cheek ;-) ) :

• Made in Taiwan (I think ? but that’s OK this month)
• Black wall tyres … :-(
• Modern tyres … :-(
• Slick tyres … :-(
• No bright ano …
• The saddles at the right height … ;-)
• The bars are at the right height … ;-)
• It’s got pedals, chain and a bottle cage … ;-)
• It’s a Marin …

But I do have the obligatory crap picture (and due to personal and work commitments, no time to get a better one :-() :



I was stuck what to pick for the second picture so this one will have to do :



At least (if studied) it shows some of the detail / mods / time that went into building it up.

OK. Pic taken in a rush today against a boring wall. My entries will never be about photgraphic prowess!




Even got the specs wrong - it's the stumpy that has the Control tech cockpit. This has Titec bars, Control tech stem and profile bar ends.

Anyway - it's all nearly NOS M950 8-speed (even original IG chain) with original crossmaxes - rear rim is coming apart at the usual place but it's still rideable).Frame is AFAIK 94 with repro 96 decals by Gil. Everything else except the forks (98 I believe) is 96/7.

I make no apologies for the bottle cage.

Darn, WD's Marin. Completely forgot that that was Taiwanese as well.

Guess that's the one which will be getting my vote. Excellent work there, WD.

Yep, if this doesn't win then its a travesty. Got to be the best build I've seen since joining
