Just picked this up, I'm more of a mountain bike than a roadie but was lured in by the M-Trax name.

Reynolds Optima steel tubing, Shimano RSX group set, Mavic Open 20 rims, and in remarkably good condition for what I believe is a 1996 or 1997 bike, the seller said it had been his bike at Uni and hadn't been used for the last 17 years or so.

Google has not thrown up much in the way of information on this Bike, so if the collective Retrobike brain has anything useful I'd love to hear it.

Setial number is G17158

I think all it needs is a clean and the saddle and bars adjusting to suit me.

I'd say you were about right on the date, maybe a year either way. Just needs a clean and a tidy up and it'll be ready to go miles

Spent a few hours today tidying the bike up. Replaced the bar tape and gave it a general clean and polish. Tyre sidewalls came up remarkably well!
It seems to be all original and in great condition for it's age.
Hope to get out on it for a ride tomorrow so will post some pics up then...

Took this out for a quick ride yesterday. Lovely. Really flies along, gear changes were mixed and crisp once I'd readjusted my brain to use the downtube shifters instead of trying to push the brake levers inwards

Nothing more to do with this bike, so I've advertised it for sale as I've other projects needing the space in the man-cave, although tbh I won't mind if this stays around for a while as I think I'll be getting out for a ride on it again soon!
