My 'new' Peugeot

Hi

New to here after just acquiring a mid 70s Peugeot 5-speed.

Got it just this week and have done one ten mile run on it and a bit of pottering around town. I've been used to a modern GT hard tail MTB in recent years which has made me lazy having all those low range gears to play with so I definitely felt the difference in the gradients with only 5-speeds. Still it's very smooth and rolls straight and true, but got to get used to those 70s brakes. Like getting from a Ford F-150 pick-up into an Alfa Duetto Spider - and I know which one of those I'd prefer...

Cheers

Me again

I've found some old French and US brochures which have something similar but can't make out the actual model so any help would be appreciated. It has the same spec as the one in this link apart from being a 5-speed - ie Simplex and Mafac gears and brakes.

Cheers, or should that be Salut!

Nice. I do like old Pugs (I am biased as I've got one myself).

I thought it was only me that when I put my leg over a French bike I feel like I ought to light a Gitane and wear a beret.

Merci! Wondered where that second sentence of yours was going for a minute then! But I agree, now I know why I've suddenly started having pastis for breakfast

That certainly does look very similar - especaly the chain guard, which is exactly that shape and that is the first similar 5-speed I've seen as well.

Good find - thank you!
