Morning all,

Quick query before i head to work - i am building a bike for my wife and it is small with 24'' wheels. Last night i fitted the brakes (which i thought fitted) but they have not a large enough drop.

What are my options?

What is the difference between 24'' wheels and 650c - is this an option?

Gotta run, Happy Esperanto Day,

Richard

It may be a 650c wheel bike
A 650c wheel is roughly a 26" wheel. Although they are slightly larger in diameter than a mountainbike 26" wheel by approximately 1cm

The distance from the axle to the rim/brake surface is around 29-30cm for a 650c frame

Either do a quick measurement or, if you have one handy, see if a mountain bike 26" wheel will fit
If the pads almost line up then you'll probably need to get some 650c wheels

Thanks,

A quick measurement reveals a distance of 28 cm - from axle centre to the lowest the brake blocks will go.

Where does that leave me? Change the brakes?

Richard

Not sure if longer reach brakes will be enough to make 24" wheels work
If you can't source 650c wheels you may be able to run mountain bike wheels (if you can find narrow one's) depending on the frame spacing

Thanks for the pointers, my LBS saved me today but left me with a couple of headaches too.

The answer to the wheels issue was new wheels - 26'' wheels fit perfectly and for £20 for the wheelset - i thought it would be rude to refuse!!! LOL

Now that problem is solved, i will get a good night's sleep or will i .....
