Retro Newbie
Hi there im new to mountain bikes and have acquired a pace rc200 frame f5 of a friend and was hoping to build it up. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice about forks to choose. apparantly it has a 1"steerer so i am limited to not many forks saw some marizocchi mx pro eta forks with a 1inch steerer with 100mm travel for £160 and i know there not retro but would these be suitable? or i also saw some 1998 pace rc36 forks second hand would these be better to buy and if so are the cheap/easy to service? any help/recommendations would be great!
cheers
Tom

First off, best advice...give me the pace!

Ok your not falling for that one....

The fact is pace frames deserve to have pace forks, they quite literally were made for each other. Pace forks look good, perform well and dont cost a massive amount second hand. Also 100mm is a little on the high travel end for a F5, id stick to 80mm max.

Servicing wise theres a chap on these boards by the name of jsutbackdated (Tim), he is an ex Pace factory man and now runs a company that specialises in looking after the older pre hollowform pace forks, he is worth every penny!

So yeah my vote is go for the pace forks...also remember you can get a 1 1/8th set of pace forks then use a shim (available from Tim) and a 1" steerer.

So get looking for a nice set of RC35 or RC36 forks! and also get your serial number onto the official list http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... t=official

cheers for the help think ill definately take on that advice and get ma self looking for sum pace forks. How much do you charge Tim to service forks if i find some? how much are the forks that you have?
